Date Day! Dan and Heather Go Bonkers For La Yunta's Banana Nut, Banana, and Carrot with Raisin Breads

We made the short trip to La Yunta today to relax, catch up on internet usage, and eat a meal or so out.  We arrived around about 10:30am and had each ordered the Desayuno Tortilla de Huevo con Jamon y Queso (a ham and cheese omelette served with a fresh roll, hot tea, and pink herb drink) for $3.80US.  We used the internet and just relaxed.  When Soledad the owner had a spare moment she would come over and chat with us for a few minutes.  I have honestly never seen anyone work as hard as she does.  The woman forgets to breathe sometimes it seems.

We noticed that we had lost time borrowing library books, reading Facebook, and emailing and it was now 2:30pm so we had a pleasant meal of English Jim's Fish and Chips with Peas.

The peas were cooked the way I like them, still a bit to the tooth not all mushy. The fish was some sort of white sweet fish, maybe a cod? It was nice to have someone else cook and Heather and could just enjoy the day.

After lunch Jim took me into the backyard and showed me that his chicken had recently laid a large amount of eggs under a bush.  The chicken was pretty upset over two gringos looking over her clutch.

It is always fun to see life here in Ecuador as it grows up in such a natural and healthy way. I hope in a few weeks I can post photos of all the baby chicks. Very cool.

Just before we were ready to leave, Soledad came over with a sample of some of the new breads she is "now" selling.  We tried the Banana Bread with Nuts and Banana Bread without Nuts.  She also let us taste a Carrot Bread filled with Raisins.  And I must say, we LOVED all three. They are breads made like we enjoy in the US.  Moist, filled with goodies, and very tasty.  Most breads here in Ecuador are dry and a bit light on the flavors we like.  This bread was so good we bought several to have at home.  We wanted to get the Carrot Bread but Sole said it was in a trial stage and that the baker will have it soon.  I hope so, it was my personal favorite.

Before we headed out Heather and I shared a Mousse de Chocolate Negro y Blanco (Dark and White Chocolate Mousse).  Yummy!

If you want a great meal in a great location and some Great Bread to Take Home you have to head to La Yunta.  Trust Us You Will Love La Junta.
