Taste Testing: Cookies, Cakes, and Sweets Here in Ecuador

A few weeks ago Dan, Mama, and I were all out shopping together. Before we left the store we all expressed an interest in having something sweet. There are lots of sweet options here in Cuenca :-)

We all thought it would be fun to taste test a variety of goodies for ourselves and the blog to see what we like. Please remember that the opinions below are our families personal opinions. Others may or may not like these items. We would guess they are all loved by many or they wouldn't be for sale all over the place. Enjoy :-)

Kinder Joy Egg

Kinder Joy Egg Toys

The Kinder Joy was super yummy and we would all give it 5 Shamrocks and we would eat it again in a heartbeat. It also came with a nice, sturdy, and fun toy. We were really happy to see that we purchased 3 eggs and each got a different toy. Dan wanted to give it 4 Shamrocks because he thought they should have forgone the toy and added more yummy sweets. LOL

Bauducco's Cake Coco

We would give the Coco Cake 1 Shamrock. It was dry, tasteless, and just plain nasty. Dan said he would rather chew on an old dirty sock than eat another bite.

Bauducco's Cake Marmolado

The Marmolado Cake was only a pinch better and would still only get it 1 Shamrock. It was still dry, still tasteless, and still gross. Dan said he would rather eat the other old dirty sock than eat another bite of it, as well. Both cakes were awful for the humans and even the Furbabies had zero interest.

This Bon O Bon was really good. We couldn't determine the flavor. I thought it had a hint of maple, but that would be weird since maple isn't common here in Ecuador. We gave this item 4 Shamrocks.

This Mini Budin seemed really dry and it completely fell apart while attempting to eat it. We all thought it had a hint of Rum flavor. We all gave it 1 Shamrocks.

Like it's Chocolate Mini Budin friend this cake had the same flaws with the same Rum flavor. Again, we would give it 1 Shamrock.

Bauducco's Maxi Goiabinha "Guava"

This bar was only 90 calories and it was pretty good. Somewhat dry. Yet, in it's own way that is to be expected. It could benefit by adding more Guava and less outer shell/crust. We give this bar 3 Shamrocks.

I do believe that I will not use the word moist in this post. Everything so far is dry and yucky. The second you open the varies items and put them on a plate they start to completely fall apart. Once again, this Duo gets 1 Shamrock.

We all think this bar is the Duo in a more solid dry form. Again, 1 Shamrock.

This Roll Cake is obviously dry. The above picture shows what we found when we opened the wrapper. This tasting is turning out to be a nightmare and we are all dreading each of the next items.

Wow...The Fruita Wafer was stale and if it wasn't stale I have no idea why people like this. Gross!!!

Colombina Choc Melos

The melo was soft and the chocolate was okay. However, the chocolate was paper thin and didn't not offer much to the melo. Dan hates marshmallow so this isn't an item he tested. I'm okay with rice crispy treats and peeps. Overall, we let mama rate these since she loves marshmallows. She gave a rating of 2-3 Shamrocks.

These were supposed to taste like lady fingers. However, they were hard as a rock, crunchy, and stale like. I'm beginning to think stale is this companies motto.

Sempre Bene Croffers "Coco"

As this point, I was sick of trying this items. These wafer were labeled as Coco and they were in no way shape or form Coco. They were flaky and tasted like nothing at all.

FINALLY!!!! Mama and I LOVED these meringues! They were flavorful and melted in our mouths. I would buy this again in a heartbeat. 4 Shamrocks.

Nestle TANGO "Bailate UNO"

Again, a hit. I saved all the Nestle items for the end so we would end this taste testing thing on a positive note. 4 Shamrocks.

Nestle Kit Kat

These Kit Kat's were better than the one's we get in the United States. The chocolate melted perfectly, the wafer was flavorful and crispy, and they didn't have the same wax coating. So Good! We WANT more! 5 Shamrocks.

Nestle Bombones Surtidos

These tasted nothing like Nestle's chocolate. They melted nicely and were flavorful in their own way.
3-4 Shamrocks.

And the final item, Mama and I did not care for the Guava candy when Sole gave us a piece at La Yunta. However, Dan went ape sh-t over them. So we purchased a big box of them for him. We even took a few pieces with us on the 4-city bus trip we went on this past Friday. 5 Shamrocks

The Bowen Knot - Shamrock Rating System

One Shamrock: This indicates the worst service possible. If awarded, it means we would never EVER use the service again. If it was a food establishment the food was barely editable. This means a complete fail with little to no redeeming features. We will never go there ever again.

Two Shamrocks: This is a service that we might consider using again to give it a second chance. But, the experience that we had would normally cause us to award one shamrock if not for some key redeeming features. If it was a food establishment the food was okay, but still sub-par. We didn't like the food. Serious room for improvement exists.

Three Shamrocks: Normal middle of the road service. We might have had some bad or some good but they were offset somewhat. This is service we would use again but we will look for a better provider. If it was a food establishment the food was good. We like it and will return. There might be room for things to get better but it is still a decent meal.

Four Shamrocks: Great service. This is a definitive repeat for us. We like a lot about the service and recommend it. If it was a food establishment the food was excellent. We liked it a lot. We like the place enough to return frequently. There are very few detractors.

Five Shamrocks: Outstanding service. This is service that treats us above and beyond what we think we deserve. We consider this what we would want to find all the time and what we hope all service providers would want to obtain. If it was a food establishment the food was perfect. No issues whatsoever. We loved it and would eat there everyday.
