Day Drive: Pines Recreation Area at Lake Glenview in Cullowhee, NC ~ Cashiers, NC ~ Highlands, NC

Candy "Mama"

Today was one of the best days ever! We enjoyed a beautiful drive to Pines Recreation Area at Lake Glenview in Cullowhee NC then we headed to Cashiers NC and Highlands NC.

Heather
After leaving our RV and FurBabies in Franklin, NC we drove along the Pines Recreation Area at Lake Glenview in Cullowhee, NC. It is a long and absolutely beautiful lake. I'm thinking that our next trip to the lake will be to go swimming and get some sunshine.

My Best Friend Denise had advised me that the Best Pizza in our area of North Carolina could be found in Cashiers, NC at Slab Town Pizza. We found it with ease and parking was in plenty.

The place was pretty empty considering it's the start of the 4th of July holiday weekend.

I did some research to see what most people thought were the best items on Slab Town's menu. There were two items that repeatedly made the list. The first item was the Mozzarella Sticks with Sunday Gravy.  The sticks weight over a pound for 4 of them.  None of us were a fan of the small dip cup.  Sharing or dipping between people is kind of gross.  The second item that was raved about was the “The Duke” Pizza (available in only 1 size, large/8 slices) which has Italian Sausage, Pepperoni, Bacon, Oregano, Chili Flakes, Ricotta Cheese, Grande' Mozzarella, and Sunday Gravy on it.  We ordered both of them :-)

Mozzarella Cheese Sticks - $8.00
“The Duke” Pizza - $20
My Favorite SodaPop
They also offer my favorite sodapop “CheerWine.” After our great meal we talked about how many Shamrocks they should be awards. I gave them 4.5 out of 5, Mom gave them 4.5 out of 5, and Dan gave them 4 out of 5.  Our reason for not giving a solid 5 Shamrocks is we didn't like having the appetizer and the pizza show up at the exact same time.  Sharing one cup with sauce for a huge size appetizer is just plain gross.  Sharing between family is one thing...as a group of friends it would be just yucky.  Also, we had to hunt for plates. It would have been nice if the cashier had pointed them out to us when we placed our order. We will 100% be going back. Hmmm...Is tomorrow to soon???

After enjoying our yummy pizza we started driving towards Highland, NC and we drove by a cool Reclamations Shop and we pulled in and took some time to walk around. We saw some really nice and really expensive items. Maybe down the road when Dan and I buy a house we will revisit this store or find one like it to buy household decorations.

During our drive through Helen, GA a short while ago I sampled a wonderful nibble of amazing English Walnut Fudge.  We didn't buy any because...well to be completely honest the price was really high for only a small amount of fudge.  Since that trip I have tasted other samples and they were all taste nightmares and quality crap.  Well today, I was on the hunt for the BEST FUDGE!  We went into Kilwin's Chocolates and Ice Cream Shoppe in Highlands, NC.  It smelled amazing and I thought they just might have the Best Fudge I was hoping to find.  Mama and Dan found the samples before I did.  They were both so excited to send me over to the sample tray.  OMGosh!!!  This English Walnut Fudge was even better then the batch we tasted down in Helen, GA.

We did pick up a few yummy goodies to take back to the RV and share.

Our last stop on this great drive was to look around in the Christmas Cottage Shoppe in Highland, NC.  They have lots of blown glass ornaments and Jim Shore's Folk Art Wood Sculptures.  We were surprised at there great prices and beautiful collection of items that they were offering for sale.

While walking around the Christmas Cottage the owners noticed that I was interested in a beach-themed picture that lite-up to put in a small space that Dan and I have in our bedroom in the RV.  It reminded me of Cocoa Beach, FL where we were married.  They wanted $35 for it and he dropped the price down to $30 and now it's hanging in our bedroom.  {HAPPY}
